Polytechnicast - Preparing and Topic Potpourri

Polytechnicast_-_album_art_-_preparation_and_topic_potpourri-1

In this episode of the Polytechnicast I have “preparing” on the mind. Working on a few projects simultaneously I find myself in the cycle of preparing, making, and finding useful connections between my projects quite often.

In addition to “preparing”, this episode is also a bit of Topic Potpourri!

Lean Into Art - LIA Cast 08 - Participatory Culture!

Can a podcast episode about artistic self determination and participatory culture be interesting?

How can it not be?

That kind of topic exploration is developing into a pattern for our show. The Lean Into Art podcast is only 8 episodes along. However, in a way, that’s 8 iterations.

Each episode Jerzy Drozd and I are both building off what we think was working from the prior eposides and keep trying new things. It’s early to say, but I think we’re finding one of the cornerstones of the show: ask questions about a gray-area visual storytelling topic of one another and explore by constructing and deconstructing the ideas we share about the topic.

We’re sharing it in the podcast to discuss with you as well.

Polytechnicast - High Adventure Crossover with Kevin Cross

Podcast-crossover-album-art-300px

In this episode I’m joined by illustrator, musician, and teaching artist Kevin Cross. We discuss various aspects of making art for the all ages market.

We ponder what styles and stories tend to reach all ages markets and which presents multiple challenges as a creator. Also: how to face the doubt that some parents have when some things seem on-the-surface not as kid friendly while those same factors (like monsters, vampires, or talking fish) are genuinely appealing to the intended kids audience. Pushing buttons takes risks, how do you keep the exciting fun and fantasy in your all ages story without alienating the parents which are also your clients?

Part 1 of our talk is in this episode of the Polytechnicast. Part 2 is (or soon will be) available at High Adventures In Illustration!

jerzydrozd:

Fun episode of Comics Are Great this week. Rob Stenzinger brought a lot of great food for thought on choosing a CMS for your comic and how to think about your site’s presentation.

In this episode of the Polytechnicast I reflect on two workshops I’ve presented recently, share a sampler of each, and delve a bit into why I chose those the topics behind each workshop:

  • Using Storytelling to Make Your Comic User Interface Awesome
  • Turning Jokes into Comics: Laughing Yeti Monkey Spaghetti
